What is project based learning?

 

Edutopia defines "project based learning as a dynamic classroom approach in which student actively explore real-world problems and challenges and acquire a deeper knowledge". This type of learning allows students to utilize critical thinking skills and explore things from a different perspective.

Project Overview

Who Wants to be a Millionaire is a week long module for high School Students enrolled in Math Models 1232. Students will be challenged with spending a hypothetical million dollars. They are required to buy a house, a vehicle, and fund their college education. Students research those required purchases, along with other luxury items, until they've spent nearly every penny! This project based learning activity enables students to understand the value of money, place value to a million, and addition and subtraction of large numbers. It will also allow them to use tools such as blogs and presentation platforms which will hone on their communication and presentation skills During this project they will be able to meet a financial expert and attorney to discuss investments.
